  • Anna and The French Kiss di Perckins
“You're the most incredible girl I've ever known. You're gorgeous and smart, and you make me laugh like no one else can. And I can talk to you. And I know after all this I don't deserve you, but what I'm trying to say is that I love you, Anna. Very much”
I'm holding my breath. I can't talk, but my eyes are filling with tears.
He takes it the wrong way. “Oh God. And I've mucked things up again, haven't I? I didn't mean to attack you like this. I mean I did but... all right.” His voice crack. “I'll leave. Or you can go down first, and then I'll come down, and I promise I'll never bother you again---”
He starts to stand, but I grab his arm. “No!”
His body freezes. “I'm sorry,” he say. “I never meant to hurt you,”
I trail my fingers across his cheek. He stays perfectly still for me. “Please stop apologizing, Étienne.”
“Say my name again,” he whispers.
I close my eyes and lean forward. “Étienne.”
He takes my hands into his. Those perfect hands, that fit mine just so. “Anna?”
Our foreheads touch. “Yes?”
“Will you please tell me you love me? I’m dying here.”
And then we’re laughing. And then I’m in his arms, and we’re kissing, at first quickly—to make up for lost time—and then slowly, because we have all the time in the world. And his lips are soft and honey sweet, and the careful, passionate way he moves them against my own says that he savors the way I taste, too.
And in between kisses, I tell him I love him.
Again and again and again.

Voglio dire l'ho fatto...okay.” La sua voce si rompre. “Me ne vado.
“No!”
Il suo corpo si congela. “Mi dispiace.” dice. “Non avrei mai voluto farti soffrire.”
Poso le mie mani sulla sua guancia. Rimane perfettamente fermo per me.
Ancora e ancora e ancora.

  • Lola and The Boy Next Door
Once upon a time, there was a girl who talked to the moon. And she was mysterious and she was perfect, in that way that girls who talk to moons are. In the house next door, there lived a boy. And the boy watched the girl grow more and more perfect, more and more beautiful with each passing year. He watched her watch the moon. And he began to wonder if the moon would help him unravel the mystery of the beautiful girl. So the boy looked into the sky. But he couldn't concentrate on the moon. He was too distracted by the stars. And it didn't matter how many songs or poems had already been written about them, because whenever he thought about the girl, the stars shone brighter. As if she were the one keeping them illuminated. One day, the boy had to move away. He couldn't bring the girl with him, so he brought the stars. When he'd look out his window at night, he would start with one. One star. And the boy would make a wish on it, and the wish would be her name. At the sound of her name, a second star would appear. And then he'd wish her name again, and the stars would double into four. And four became eight, and eight became sixteen, and so on, in the greatest mathematical equation the universe had ever seen. And by the time an hour had passed, the sky would be filled with so many stars that it would wake the neighbors. People wondered who'd turned on the floodlights. The boy did. By thinking about the girl.

  • Unravel Me di Tahereh Mafi

“I want you,” he says. He says “I want all of you. I want you inside and out and catching your breath and aching for me like I ache for you.” He says it like it’s a lit cigarette lodged in his throat, like he wants to dip me in warm honey and he says “It’s never been a secret. I’ve never tried to hide that from you. I’ve never pretended I wanted anything less.”

“You—you said you wanted f-friendship—”
“Yes,” he says, he swallows, “I did. I do. I do want to be your friend.” He nods and I register the slight movement in the air between us. “I want to be the friend you fall hopelessly in love with. The one you take into your arms and into your bed and into the private world you keep trapped in your head. I want to be that kind of friend,” he says. “The one who will memorize the things you say as well as the shape of your lips when you say them. I want to know every curve, every freckle, every shiver of your body, Juliette—”
“No,” I gasp. “Don’t—don’t s-say that—”
I don’t know what I’ll do if he keeps talking I don’t know what I’ll do and I don’t trust myself
“I want to know where to touch you,” he says. “I want to know how to touch you. I want to know how to convince you to design a smile just for me.” I feel his chest rising, falling, up and down and up and down and “Yes,” he says. “I do want to be your friend.” He says “I want to be your best friend in the entire world.”
I can’t think.
I can’t breathe
“I want so many things,” he whispers. “I want your mind. Your strength. I want to be worth your time.” His fingers graze the hem of my top and he says “I want this up.” He tugs on the waist of my pants and says “I want these down.” He touches the tips of his fingers to the sides of my body and says, “I want to feel your skin on fire. I want to feel your heart racing next to mine and I want to know it’s racing because of me, because you want me. Because you never,” he says, he breathes, “never want me to stop. I want every second. Every inch of you. I want all of it.”
And I drop dead, all over the floor.
“Juliette.”
I can’t understand why I can still hear him speaking because I’m dead, I’m already dead, I’ve died over and over and over again
He swallows, hard, his chest heaving, his words a breathless, shaky whisper when he says “I’m so—I’m so desperately in love with you—“

“Ti voglio,” dice.
“No,” ansimo. “No-non lo dire-”
Non so cosa farò se continua a parlare
Non so cosa farò e non mi fido di me stessa
“Voglio sapere dove toccarti,” dice. “Voglio sapere come toccarti.

“I read them all. Every word you wrote. You and I, Tess, we’re alike. We live and breathe words. It was books that kept me from taking my own life after I thought I could never love anyone, never be loved by anyone again. It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them. Reading your words, what you wrote, how you were lonely sometimes and afraid, but always brave; the way you saw the world, its colors and textures and sounds, I felt- I felt the way you thought, hoped, felt dreamed. I felt I was dreaming and thinking and feelingwith you. I dreamed what you dreamed, wanted what you wanted- and then I realized that truly I just wanted you. The girl behind the scrawled letters. I loved you from the moment I read them. I love you still.”

Ti amo ancora."

  • Saving Francesca di Melina Marchetta
"You’s difficult. You’re planning on puking your way through Europe at a time that I thought you were … kind of interested in me.”“Kind of interested in you,” he laughs, as if he can’t believe what he’s hearing. “I’m kind of interested in calculus and ancient Roman warfare. You don’t use words like kind of interested to describe how I feel about you.”“You always say it’s complicated,” I say, turning to face him. “Make it simple for me.”He thinks about it for a moment.“Okay.” He has that calculating-a-math-problem thing written all over his face.“‘Simple’ is breaking up with my girlfriend. I thought it would be much more complicated but it wasn’t. I wish I had done it earlier, but there were tons of reasons, logical ones, for going out with her. Everything was nice. Not dramatic, not emotional, not feeling like a yo-yo or comparing someone you’re crazy about to stationery, it was just nice. I’d look at her and think, nice. Nice body, nice face, sex would be nice… .”“Will,” I interrupt. “Do I need to hear the ‘sex would be nice’ stuff? I had a bit of a mini-breakdown yesterday and you’re not cheering me up.”“Yes you do, because breaking up with her was so easy and breaking up with you would be like, I don’t even want to think about it.”
“We haven’t even started going out together and you’re thinking of breaking up.”“But that’s it. When I think of you, I think of future stuff. I think of this is it and I’m not supposed to think this is it at my age. I don’t look at you and think nice. I look at you and think, oh my God, I want to hold her and never let her go. I think, sex—right here, right now—”“Frankie!”My dad is behind us and Will swings around in shock, instantly getting onto his feet and staring up at my father, who is glaring.“We’ll be leaving in five minutes,” he says, eyeing Will.“Papa, this is Will.”My father nods, taking in every detail, and then he goes inside.
Will sits down, stunned.“He heard the sex bit.”“If you said the word ‘sex’ to me and I was standing a thousand miles away from him, he’d hear it.”I laugh, because I can’t help it. I can’t believe I’m talking about having sex, and I know this sounds slack, but I just love it when Will’s all confused and rambling.“Am I making sense?” he asks.“Weirdly enough, yes.”“Last year on Reflection Day we had to write down what our foundations were and whether we thought they were strong enough to get us through unfamiliar territory, and I thought, shit no. Go overseas and have my whole world back here change? No way. I didn’t even know who I was here, so what made me think that I’d know who I was over there?“But we had to do the list again this year, so I went for it. I didn’t put down Sebastian’s, because school’s not going to be there next year, nor is being a prefect or choirboy or rugby loser or anything else. And that freaked me out, because I wondered, what am I if I’m not all those things? But I stuck to three truths. The first is that my family loves me. It’s unconditional, and I know this because of the way they’ve dealt with things in my older brothers’ lives that they don’t believe in but support. Secondly is that I’m good at building things, and thirdly is how I feel about you, but more than anything how I feel about me because of you.“Sometimes you look at me and it’s like all the bullshit gets stripped off and I’m left with what’s underneath and I kind of like what I see. Someone who actually fails. Someone who has absolutely no self-control. Someone who says real dickhead things like ‘this is complicated.’ I like that part of me, you know. I like the fact that I know I can’t control you or how I feel about you and that doesn’t freak me out.”“I love it when you’re demented like this.”

- Interessato a te? - Rendilo semplici per me.
- Will - lo interrompo.
- Franckie!
Mio padre è dietro di noi. Will lo vede e balza in piedi, scioccato, è papà lo guarda in cagnesco.
- Tra cinque minuti andiamo - mi dice, sempre fissando Will.
- Papà, questo è Will.
Will si siede sconvolto.
Ed io ho pensato: “accidenti, no. Andare all'estero e tornare per trovare tutto cambiato?

  •  The Sea of Tranquility di Katja Millay

“I’m going to say this and it probably won’t sound good or eloquent or whatever and I’m probably going to ramble, but just let me say it, okay? Will you listen?” Her eyes are soft on me. Her lips just barely turn up.
“You’ve listened to every word I’ve ever said. Even the ones I didn’t say. I’ll listen to anything, Josh.” It’s like a razor that slices through whatever is left holding me, and I just go.
“Maybe one day you’ll come back.
Maybe you never will and that’ll suck, but you can’t keep doing this. The blame and the self-loathing and the bullshit. I can’t watch that. It makes me hate you for hating yourself. I don’t want to lose you. But I’d rather lose you if it means you’ll be happy.
I think if you come back with me today, you’ll never be okay. And I’ll never be okay if you aren’t. I need to know that there’s a way for people like us to end up okay. I need to know that there even is such a thing as okay, or maybe not just okay, maybe even good, and it’s out there and we just haven’t found it yet. There’s got to be a happier ending than this, here. There’s got to be a better story. Because we deserve one. You deserve one. Even if it doesn’t end with you coming back to me.” The last part chokes me. Steals my air and burns my eyes. I’m kicking myself when I say it. I tell myself to shut up and keep her. Grab her and kiss her and tell her everything will be okay because I’ll make it okay, good, even. Tell her that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with her. Lie to her with every pretty lie I have. But I can’t do it. I’ve done goodbyes before, and I can do this one, too. Somehow this one hurts worse than the others; because this one I could prevent if I wanted to, since I’m the one saying it. This goodbye comes with a choice the way none of the others ever did.
And as much as I’m telling her to stay here, as much as I know she needs to stay here, I still want her to choose to come with me.
To say fuck sanity and healing and closure.
To say that I am the only thing she needs to be well and whole and alive. But we both know that’s not true. She’s going to say goodbye to me today and I have to let her and neither of us knows if she’s ever going to come back.

***
I’ve been trying to leave for twenty minutes, but neither of us knows how to say goodbye. Even now, I know that all of the words I’ve given her today haven’t been enough, because I haven’t said the one thing that needs to be said the most.
And if I want to leave here without regrets, I need to know that there are no more unsaid words left to haunt me.
“Wait.” I catch her as she walks away, taking her hand and turning it over in mine, tracing the scars like I’ve done so many times before. She’s searching my face and I can almost feel her eyes reaching into mine, wondering what more there could possibly be to say.
I don’t know how to say it—after all this time, I’m not even sure that I can—but I have to break her last rule, because if she knows nothing else, I need her to know this one thing.
“I love you, Sunshine,” I tell her, before I lose my nerve. “And I don’t give a shit whether you want me to or not.”

  • City of Glass di Cassandra Clare
“I was trying to go…somewhere,” Jace said. “But I kept getting pulled back here. I couldn’t stop walking, couldn’t stop thinking. About the first time I ever saw you, and how after that I couldn’t forget you. I wanted to, but I couldn’t stop myself. I forced Hodge to let me be the one who came to find you and bring you back to the Institute. And even back then, in that stupid coffee shop, when I saw you sitting on that couch with Simon, even then that felt wrong to me—I should have been the one sitting with you. The one who made you laugh like that. I couldn’t get rid of that feeling. That it should have been me. And the more I knew you, the more I felt it—it had never been like that for me before. I’d always wanted a girl and then gotten to know her and not wanted her
anymore, but with you the feeling just got stronger and stronger until that night when you
showed up at Renwick’s and I knew.
“And then to find out that the reason I felt like that—like you were some part of me I’d lost and never even knew I was missing until I saw you again—that the reason was that you were my sister, it felt like some sort of cosmic joke. Like God was spitting on me. I don’t even know for what—for thinking that I could actually get to have you, that I would deserve something like that, to be that happy. I couldn’t imagine what it was I’d done that I was being punished for—”
“If you’re being punished,” Clary said, “then so am I. Because all those things you felt, I felt them too, but we can’t—we have to stop feeling this way, because it’s our only chance.”

Jace’s hands were tight at his sides. “Our only chance for what?”
“To be together at all. Because otherwise we can’t ever be around each other, not even just in the same room, and I can’t stand that. I’d rather have you in my life even as a brother than not at all—”
“And I’m supposed to sit by while you date boys, fall in love with someone else, get married…?” His voice tightened. “And meanwhile, I’ll die a little bit more every day, watching.”
“No. You won’t care by then,” she said, wondering even as she said it if she could stand the idea of a Jace who didn’t care. She hadn’t thought as far ahead as he had, and when she tried to imagine watching him fall in love with someone else, marry someone else, she couldn’t even picture it, couldn’t picture anything but an empty black tunnel that stretched out ahead of her, forever. “Please. If we don’t say anything—if we just pretend—”
“There is no pretending,” Jace said with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there’s a life after that, I’ll love you then.”
